In Their Own Words

I have known Carmel since 1998, when we served together on the board of an international school in Kiev, Ukraine (Carmel chaired the board). Having witnessed first-hand her extraordinary intellect, drive and competence – this is a woman who undoubtedly would be CEO of a Fortune 500 consumer company had she not chosen to leave the corporate world to raise her 4 kids – it was a no-brainer to turn to her for help when my oldest daughter commenced the college search process as a high school junior in Moscow. I cannot overemphasize the peace of mind it gave me to have such a unique resource guiding my daughter – and her parents – through the intimidating and complex process of selecting and applying to US colleges having lived abroad for so many years. While Carmel’s “value proposition” to non-US families is clear, my experience has shown the equally valuable contribution that Carmel can make to American parents whose children were schooled internationally. I have degrees from Bucknell and Harvard and considered myself very informed about the US college admission process and about the colleges themselves, yet I recognized that not only do international students require unique packaging, but that an awful lot has changed since I was a college and graduate student. I felt that the college admission process was going the way of the US income tax system – more complex each year to the point where those of us without plain vanilla situations find it nearly impossible to “file” properly without specialized assistance. Enter Carmel. Whether you are non-US citizens with kids looking to attend US colleges, US citizens with kids who have grown up internationally, or good ol’ US parents with kids who grew up in the US – I give Carmel my highest recommendation without reservation. I look forward to Carmel’s help with my other 4 kids’ college applications!

I grew up in Saudi Arabia, but I always knew that I wanted to attend a university in the States. When I graduated from an Arabic high school, I felt that jumping right into an American college curriculum would be extremely difficult. Mrs. Delaney helped me find an excellent solution to my problem and that was to take a transitional year between high school and college as a Post-Graduate. With her help, I was accepted at The Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, a top-ranked preparatory school which really helped in easing my transition between international high schooling and U.S College. I had a great year at Lawrenceville and would recommend a PG year to anyone in a similar situation. I am now in my second year at Fordham University in New York; I love the courses that I’m taking and have great friends. I know that I wouldn’t be doing as well as I am today if it weren’t for the first-rate assistance of Mrs. Delaney and International Educational Resources.

Carmel's assistance was a great help. She was easy to talk to and if I had a question of any kind, I could e-mail or call her, and know that I would get an answer soon. We set a kind of a schedule at the beginning which helped me to prioritize to do the most important things first, this was extremely helpful since we started to work together later than most of the students usually do. I would definitely recommend students and parents to work with Carmel, She really knew what she was doing and what needed to be done.

Dear Carmel, March 2006
I just wanted to share some good news about Rami. He has received acceptances at three Universities! Thanks so much for helping Rami evaluate the best fit for him and your recommendation to do a Post Graduate year at The Lawrenceville School has proven to be a great step. Rami is not only having a great academic experience, he is also having an excellent swimming experience and is thrilled to be part of such a great team.
Your experience in evaluating a student and directing him to what the best options are is invaluable and ultimately helps students make the right decisions about their future.
Thanks also for making this an easy process and I’m looking forward to working with you again with Rami’s siblings!

Dear Carmel, I'm happy to let you know that we spent two perfectly planned days visiting U PENN, Princeton, Columbia and NYU. Everything was on time and perfectly scheduled. Thank you.
All this sessions was very informative for us and pretty helpful. I think that making several tours one by one is a great idea, because you can compare immediately and easily notice the main differences. As a result of summer camp experience and college tour experience our daughter becomes more responsible about her next school year plans and more self confident in general. We are looking forward to see you this fall in Moscow.

With the support of International Educational Resources students can start being independent while making the choices and doing the work required to go to the US for higher education. Actually, in our case, the parental involvement required was minimal which was good because we did not know much about the US system. Carmel made sure that our child stayed on the right track and is now at a school that is a perfect fit.
The red tape in the application and entry process has grown enormously since I went to university in U.S.A 30 years ago as a foreign student. The professional resources of IER really saved us a lot of time and energy throughout this process.

International Educational Resources’ support is great as they provide an objective assessment of the student which is necessary to make the best possible choices. Carmel really cares.

I will ask International Educational Resources help for my next Moscow IB graduate also.
